Northern Lights Possible TONIGHT in Kansas!

Every now and then a substantial solar storm moves our way and creates favorable conditions for the aurora borealis, or Northern Lights, to be visible as far south as Kansas.

Forecasted aurora borealis issued by the University of Alaska-Fairbanks for Monday, November 2.
Forecasted aurora borealis issued by the University of Alaska-Fairbanks for Monday, November 2.

Tonight’s level is forecasted to be High(++), at a level of 7 out of 10. The current projection would give the visibility of the lights on the northern horizon, fairly low to the ground overnight. Anywhere on the image north of the solid green line has a chance to see the lights.

TIMING: Monday night, possibly Tuesday night. No set time as auroras come and go periocally.

Good luck and with clear skies most of the night, you might just get a glimpse! There could be another opportunity Tuesday night.
